How to build an organic garden?

You already know the advantages of growing an organic garden. If you have never planted anything, organic gardening might seem intimidating. Growing a healthy garden does not have to be difficult. Taking extra care of the seeds, soil and fertilizer will yield a tasty garden.

Before planting anything in your garden, you need to find seeds that are not genetically modified. You might have a difficult time finding organic seeds in a grocery store, but you can easily purchase organic seeds online. When you place your order, you should consider the time of year you want to start your garden. You should calculate shipping times to ensure the seeds will arrive before gardening season. The climate and soil will determine the seeds you purchase. If you are planning on using starter plants, you need to ensure the plants are from organic sources. Peppers are good beginner plants for organic gardening. They grow well in containers and in large plots.

Space, or the absence of it, should not prevent you from planting an organic garden. Regardless of whether you live in the city or the country, you can still grow an abundant garden. Containers are perfect for people who reside in cramped spaces. Wood containers are best for container gardens. If you cannot find wooden containers, ceramic containers are suitable if they have holes for circulation and draining. When you have chosen a plot in your garden or the perfect containers, you should learn what plants grow better in shade or sun. Read the instructions on the seed packets before grabbing the rest of your gardening tools.

Besides the seeds, your garden will need organic soil and organic fertilizer. When you have decided where your garden will be, you should choose a soil that retains moisture. You do not want too much or too little water in the soil. Clay soil holds too much water. Sand drains water, but too much sand can drain necessary nutrients. You need to dig a few inches in the dirt to find the perfect soil. Dig six inches into the dirt, and add sand if the soil is wet. Add compost if the soil is dry. Your kitchen waste can be used as compost in your garden.

There are numerous natural fertilizers you can use to grow an organic garden. None of these fertilizers contain synthetic chemicals, and they all contain nutrients for your plants. Besides waste from vegetables, you can use fish, bones and wood ashes. Before using these fertilizers, you should research how much you can use without harming your plants.

Once your plants start to grow, you will need to keep bugs and animals away. Not all creepy crawlers are harmful to your plants. Worms are great for the soil, and frogs eat flying bugs. Birds keep critters away from your garden, so you should place a birdbath near your plants. Herbs, such as mint, and natural pepper sprays can keep animals away from your garden.
